Varian manufactures medical equipment used by physicians, clinicians worldwide in the treatment of cancer. Varian has medical devices and software used in radio-therapy, radio-surgery, proton therapy, brachy therapy. A new area was established in 2018 for Oncology Software Solutions OSS.

Proton Solutions
Varian Particle Therapy is a newly created business unit (2012) that develops, manufactures and installs proton therapy equipment. Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation therapy. The special dose profile of a proton beam allows for excellent dose distributions, with the added benefit of no 'exit dose'. These characteristics make proton therapy an excellent choice for pediatric treatments and the treatment of tumors located next to critical structures.
The business unit has its headquarter near Cologne in Germany, and has offices in Milpitas, Munich and San Diego. In addition a production facility for accelerator, beam line and nozzle systems is located in Troisdorf Germany, and a Development and Training Center housing a complete treatment room is located in Rockford, Illinois. In cooperation with Oncology Systems R&D programs for particle therapy are conducted in Palo Alto, Crawley, Baden, Helsinki and Pune.
