Key Responsibilities

 The Director of Development’s goal will be to generate revenue for current programmatic and operational needs of the organization, while building capacity for growth and expanded mission impact by acquiring new donors, retaining and upgrading current donors, renewing lapsed donors, providing stewardship, and developing systems for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. The Director will use direct mail, digital fundraising, website, direct response media, fundraising events, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, sponsorships, major gifts, partnerships, cause related marketing, or other appropriate methods to achieve development goals.

 The Director’s ongoing responsibilities include the following:

  • Generate net revenue for the organization to help carry out programmatic and operational needs.
  • Create and execute a fundraising plan for each channel of support to include revenue generation and improved ROI.
  • Create and execute a stewardship plan for each channel of support to include efficient and accurate gift processing, timely acknowledgement and thank you process, and consistent stewardship which conveys to donors how their giving is making a difference.
  • Create and execute a plan for effective digital marketing and fundraising campaigns to include web site, social media and other tools as needed, and integrate with traditional methods.
  • Manage staff and outside vendors toward the completion of goals.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

The Director’s impact will be measured by the following:

  • The amount of net revenue generated for the organization for programmatic and operational purposes.
  • Ability to retain, upgrade, and expand a quality pool of donors, primarily from direct marketing efforts.
  • Ability to ensure quality in all marketing and fundraising materials and lead and manage a team which will do the same in pursuit of fundraising goals.
  • Ability to create new revenue streams, grow and improve existing channels, and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to execute plans in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to create effective offers for donors and secure information that can be sent back to donors to report on how their giving made a difference.
  • Ability to create timely reports and analysis.
  • Ability to manage people, processes, deadlines, and budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ability to get along with peers, subordinates and management and maintain a positive and constructive attitude while solving problems.
  • Ability to be a team player and protect the mission, goals and values of the organization.

 Professional Experience/Qualifications 

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in leading a successful fundraising program with a focus on direct marketing and digital campaigns is required.
  • Proven record of meeting or exceeding goals; demonstrated ability to produce a bigger, stronger base of donor support through direct marketing systems.
  • Entrepreneurial, creative, goal-oriented fundraiser, with ability to lead a team, achieve results, and be accountable. 
  • Skilled in budgeting, financial management, data analysis and forecasting. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate with team members at various levels of the organization.
  • Organized, with great attention to detail, editing and product approval skills, and ability to navigate technical issues regarding various web and social media platforms, CRMs, etc.

 

Education

A completed bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
