Job Description

A Site Safety and Health officer has the important role of protecting both the workers and workplace and ensuring the organization is compliant with government requirements. The objective of the Site Safety & Health Officer is to ensure the efficient profitable management of the SMART Safety Group customer’s Safety Program. 

The primary functions of a health and safety officer are to develop, monitor and implement the organization's health and safety policy; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the workers but also of the workplace, environment and general public. This role is administrative consulting role to our customers. This position does not; and is not to perform any duties to the jobsites other than assigned to walk the site, monitor, audit, consult and train jobsite personnel on

 Duties and Responsibilities

 Enhance the image and reputation of SMART Safety Group. By exercising sound, ethical business practices in all relations with customers, employees, others and ensure all practices comply with the Company’s quality procedures.

  1. Planning, coordinating, scheduling, and controlling the safety functions at assigned customer’s jobsite to meet or exceed customer expectations for safety management.
  2. Controlling productivity and safety audit accuracy on each job-site audit under the Site Safety and Health Officer’s control and provide data for any other reports required by the customer and/or the Staffing Director.
  3. Maintaining document control to insure information is accurate and timely for maintaining customer safety program requirements.
  4. Maintaining record keeping to adequately report safety program results and incident follow-up.
  5. Coordinating the material and personnel to perform all structured meetings with customer personnel.
  6. Controlling and reporting time spent on activities for each assigned customer on a continuing basis.
  7. Coordinating audits to assure they are conducted, collated and reported properly to each customer as well as the Staffing Director.
  8. Ensure that all activities under the direct control of the Site Safety & Health Officer meet the quality standards of the company and customers.
  9. Prepare self with the proper mindset, safety supplies and procedures prior to entering job site.
  10. Attending all company training and staff meetings as directed
  11. Ensuring that safety programs are followed and that customer’s employees operate within sound safety standards.
  12. Provide information, communication and leadership to make the Management Team an effective unit by providing the Management Team and Staffing Director with customer information on a regular basis using the information documents required by SMART Safety Group.
  13. Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, City and municipality laws and regulations.
  14. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned and keep SMART Safety Group informed on significant financial and employment issues.
  15. Perform all administrative and clerical duties
  • Doc prep, reporting, email, copy, faxing, filing, scanning, answering calls
  • Other projects as assigned

 

Education/Experience

 High School degree, or equivalent (required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (optional) (environmental health or related field (preferred))
  • 30-hour OSHA construction safety class within the last 5 years
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (required)
  • Prior experience as an SSHO
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards for construction, general industry, Cal OSHA, FED OSHA, EM385-1-1
  • CHST or STS, OHST, ASP, CSP (preferred)
  • EM 385-1-1 40 Hour safety Certified (preferred)
  • Experience on military facilities (preferred)
  • An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years
  • Training for competent person status in the following areas: Excavation, Fall protection, Scaffolding, Confined Space, Electrical Installations/ lock out-tag out (preferred)
  • Continuing education in safety training classes, required
