Job Description

Thorlabs is one of the world's best manufacturers of optomechanical products for the photonics industry. Our 120,000 sq. feet of manufacturing space in Newton NJ has over 75 CNC machines. We are continually expanding and improving our operation and seek apprenticeship candidates that have the aptitude and passion to take our manufacturing operation to the next level. Apprentices will advance quickly by directly working with experienced machinists as well as participating in various accelerated learning programs including the machine tool program at SCCC all while being paid a competitive wage.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Learn to operate CNC Machines
  • Learn basic CNC programing
  • Learn the operation of manual mills, lathes, and secondary shop equipment
  • Learn Blueprint reading, shop math, and tolerancing
  • Learn to maintain the equipment
  • Learn shop safety
  • Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service.
  • Promote unity and positive morale.
  • Ensure cleanliness of work areas

Qualifications

Experience:

  • No prior experience needed

Education:

  • High School Level Math and Reading.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong sense of ownership and work ethic, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with high quality standards.
  • Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing priorities.
