The Fiber Manufacturing Technician sets-up and operates the Fiber Draw towers in compliance with metric drawing specifications/fabricates ultra-high purity glasses by preparing powders, mixing batches, and using melting and casting procedures. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.

Physical Activities:
Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 29 pounds. All objects heavier than 30 pounds will be lifted by group of employees. Installation of equipment and hands on use when necessary. Must wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as masks, glasses, and gloves. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and may be noisy at times. Ability to work at heights of up to 80 feet.
Qualifications
Experience:
0 to 1 year of manufacturing experience.
Education:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
