Purpose of the Position The Compliance Coordinator I is responsible for supporting day-to-day compliance activities and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of compliance-related processes. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:
• Serve as a product compliance liaison with vendors for the purposes of accurate compliance classifications for regulations such as RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, PFAS, and TSCA.
• Based on vendor responses, enter validated classifications for relevant components into D365.
• Determine compliance classifications for finished goods by evaluating the classifications of components and materials included in the product Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Partner with other functional departments like Engineering and Purchasing to ensure regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
• Respond to Customer requests for compliance-related information.
In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
• Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
• Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Requirements
Physical Activities:
• Work may be active at times, could stand, walk, or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times.
Work areas may be noisy at times. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
Qualifications Experience:
• 1 or more years of compliance or regulatory experience, as well as 5 or more years of administrative record keeping experience.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
• Detail Oriented: Review product declarations and technical data sheets to process product compliance related needs.
• Multitasking & Deadline Driven: Manage multiple compliance projects simultaneously, aligning with strict regulatory reporting deadlines and product launch schedules.
• Autonomous & Team Driven: Work on a self-initiated basis to respond to and support meeting evolving global regulations while collaborating closely with international, cross-departmental teams where a strong ability to multitask is essential. Regulatory & Environmental Compliance Expertise:
• Global Material Regulations: Apply research regarding RoHS and REACH directives, SVHC updates, and TSCA classifications.
• PFAS Management: Track and report on PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) restrictions and emerging regulatory reporting mandates.
• Responsible Sourcing: Manage Conflict Minerals compliance (3TG) by collecting, auditing, and compiling data using the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT).
• Trade & Commodity Classification: Assign and audit Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and UNSPSC codes for accurate product classification and customs compliance.
• Supplier Data Collection: Request, gather, and review Full Material Declarations (FMD), certificates of compliance (CoC), from global vendors.
The hourly rate for this position is $22.00 – $28.00 D.O.E.
